Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) put forth a resolution on Monday urging the Cabinet to oust President Biden using the 25th Amendment, citing concerns about his mental and physical well-being.
“The Hur report officially addressed what many Americans have long witnessed with their own eyes — that President Biden is no longer fit to successfully discharge the critical duties of his office. Numerous instances were articulated in the report, and have played out in full public view, showing President Biden’s apparent cognitive decline and lack of mental stamina.” Buck remarked in a recent statement.
Buck’s resolution is based on a recent report by special counsel Robert Hur, which exonerated Biden of any criminal misconduct regarding classified information following his departure from the White House in 2017.
According to the report, Biden had difficulty recalling dates and significant events, and was portrayed as a kind-hearted elderly individual with memory challenges. Biden vehemently rejected the characterization.
The 25th Amendment allows the Cabinet, under the leadership of the vice president, to relieve the president of their responsibilities if they are deemed incapable of carrying them out.
There has been speculation about the potential use of this power, with Trump critics bringing it up after the Jan. 6 Capitol riots and Republicans discussing it in relation to Biden.
Several otehr Republicans have also suggested utilizing the 25th Amendment to oust Biden in light of the Hur report, with Buck’s resolution marking the initial formal push in Congress to prompt Cabinet intervention.
