Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) suggested that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy should consider finding employment.
Mace was among eight Republicans who supported removing McCarthy from the House speakership last year. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was the one who initiated the motion to vacate.
“The former speaker needs to get a job. I think that’s the problem: He’s bored and doesn’t know what to do with himself,” Mace remarked during an appearance on Politico’s ‘Deep Dive’ podcast.
Mace stated that McCarthy jeopardized the Republican Party’s majority.
“He’s a complete loser. He couldn’t keep his job as speaker, and he quit on the Republican Party. He quit his job. He put our majority at risk,” she continued.
Mace expressed her confidence in current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and stated a preference for his leadership approach over McCarthy’s.
Mace also discussed the criticism she receives for sharing too much in media interviews. The congresswoman attributed the criticism to her gender.
“The irony is men can do it. But the minute I, a fiscally conservative woman, does it, somehow it’s not the same. … I do media interviews like a lot of my male colleagues, but they’re not getting attacked. I don’t see Tim Scott or Lindsey Graham getting attacked the way that I do. And they’re on TV more than I am.” Mace said.
