Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) essentially attempted to disregard Fox Business correspondent Hillary Vaughn’s inquiry as to how she feels about the closure of New York City schools to accommodate migrants.
The congresswoman initially stated that it is not within her district before concluding that housing migrants in the school is unlikely to be a permanent arrangement.
This week, James Madison High School students were forced to transition to online learning in response to the relocation of hundreds of migrants to the institution by city officials in New York in anticipation of a winter storm.
The migrants were ultimately returned to their Brooklyn refuge.
Thursday, Vaughn convened on Capitol Hill to engage in a discussion with the progressive lawmaker regarding her stance on the burgeoning migrant crisis that is besetting major metropolitan areas, including New York.
With respect to the educational matter, AOC initially seemed to disregard the inquiry prior to providing a more comprehensive reply once she was pressed.
“Are you okay with a school being used as a shelter?” Vaughn asked.
“You know, I think it’s — Again, this is not, it’s not in my district. I think it’s very clear here that what’s most important is that we identify a facility that’s appropriate for these folks. I don’t anticipate this being a long-term solution. It shouldn’t be a long term solution.” Cortez said in response.
