Wednesday, former Attorney General Bill Barr expressed his disapproval of the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to exclude former President Trump from the state’s presidential ballot.
Barr claimed that the opinion would likely be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court and that the decision could potentially aid Trump in his election campaign.
Barr, a former attorney general for Trump but opponent of the former in the Republican primary, directed his critique towards the process of decision-making rather than the substance of the decision.
“I strongly oppose Donald Trump for the Republican nomination, but I think that this case is legally wrong and untenable. And I think this kind of action of stretching the law, taking these hyper-aggressive positions to try to knock Trump out of the race are counterproductive. They backfire.” Barr said during a recent interview with CNN.
Former Attorney General Bill Barr says the Colorado Supreme Court's “hyper-aggressive” ruling to disqualify Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot is “counterproductive”:

“He feeds on grievance just like a fire feeds on oxygen. And this is going to end up as a grievance that helps him,” he continued.
The Colorado court ruled that Trump, in violation of the 14th Amendment, incited and participated in the January 6 Capitol disturbances and should be disqualified from the state’s ballot. The Supreme Court will almost certainly hear the intricate case.
Barr declined to state his stance on the case’s merits, later suggesting that he holds the belief that Trump is culpable for the events of January 6.
However, he lodged his grievances regarding the manner in which the case was handled. The Colorado case was resolved without a jury after a brief trial that included five days of argument.
“I disagree with the court’s ability to make those findings. The core problem here is the denial of due process.” he concluded.
