Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s salary would reportedly be reduced to $1 under an amendment passed by House members to a defense budget measure, but the provision is unlikely to be enacted because the bill appears bound to failure.
On Wednesday afternoon, the House adopted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) amendment by voice vote.
Greene praised the amendment’s passage and argued that Austin should be removed from his position due to the disorderly American pullout from Afghanistan in 2021 and the low level of military recruiting.
She claimed that the Defense chief couldn’t afford even $1.

“There’s a loss in confidence in Lloyd Austin’s leadership and he deserves to be fired,” Greene said during an speech on the House floor.
“Secretary Austin has not fulfilled his job duties; as a matter of fact, he’s destroying our military,” she continued.
