Due to worries that USAID is reportedly utilizing public funds to promote “wokeism” abroad, Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) proposed a measure on Tuesday to disband the organization.
Gaetz used a Heritage Foundation study from the previous year in a press release to demonstrate how the organization was funding “leftist activism” abroad with money from American tax payers. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Eli Crane (R-AZ), and Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) are the measure’s co-sponsors. The bill lists multiple instances of USAID promoting “leftist ideology.”
Additionally, the organization has granted money to different communist charities using tax resources.
In conjunction with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, it was disclosed in April that USAID intended to donate up to $50 million to advance “digital gender equality” in Africa and other parts of the world.
