The presidential campaign of Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) reportedly said on Tuesday that he has earned a spot in the Republican National Committee primary debate.
The latest Morning Consult weekly survey, which showed Burgum with 1%, was referenced by the governor’s staff. He met the polling threshold due to the national poll’s standing.
Four polls were cited by his campaign as having helped the candidate surpass the polling requirements.
“Gov. Burgum is looking forward to sharing his focus on the economy, energy, and national security at the August debate. In less than seven weeks, Gov. Burgum has exceeded all the requirements for the debate. As a governor and business leader, Doug knows how to fix the economy, unleash American energy, and win the cold war with China.” Burgum’s campaign spokesman said in a statement.
Burgum satisfied the criteria by scoring 1% in polls conducted by Morning Consult and JMC Analytics, as well as 6% in a current University of New Hampshire survey and 3% in an Iowa poll conducted by Fox Business.
Burgum collected 40,000 distinct donations last week to reach the fundraising goal. Burgum, a wealthy businessman who has been mostly paying his own campaign, started giving contributors $20 “Biden relief cards” in return for a gift of just $1 in order to reach the required number of donors.
