Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly warned on Monday that if China joins forces with Russia, World War III will be unavoidable.
Zelensky’s remarks came on the same day that US Vice President Joe Biden paid an unexpected visit to Kyiv and two days after US intelligence authorities disclosed that China is considering giving deadly help to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s soldiers.
“For us, it is important that China does not support the Russian Federation in this war. In fact, I would like it to be on our side. At the moment, however, I don’t think it’s possible.” The Ukrainian leader said.
“But I do see an opportunity for China to make a pragmatic assessment of what is happening here. Because if China allies itself with Russia, there will be a world war, and I do think that China is aware of that.” he continued.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned China on Saturday that there would be repercussions if the communist country delivered fatal help to Russia.
Blinken is said to be concerned about China cozying up to Putin and potentially playing a bigger role in the conflict in the coming months and years.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US has contributed a massive $200 billion in aid with more expected, including weaponry, ammunition, long-range missiles, and tanks.
Meanwhile, Chinese corporations have provided navigation systems, jammer technologies, and fighter aircraft parts to Russia’s military.
